Nicki Tiffin works in health informatics, health genomics and bioinformatics approaches to investigating disease in African populations, including work in data governance and ethics within Africa. She has a PhD in Molecular Genetics and a Masters in Public Health, specialising in Epidemiology. She is an Associate Professor in the Division of Computational Biology and the Data Integration platform of the Wellcome Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Africa (CIDRI-Africa) at the University of Cape Town, where she leads a research group that explores the intersection of data from these different domains and how they might be ethically harnessed to better understand the disease state. She also works on secondment to the Western Cape Provincial Health Department assisting with infrastructure and governance for the Provincial Health Data Centre, a health information exchange which manages routine health data for the Western Cape Province.

Dr. Marc Mendelson, PhD, is Professor of Infectious Diseases and Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases & HIV Medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital, University of Cape Town. Marc is Chair of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance, South African lead for Antimicrobial Resistance on the Global Health Security Agenda, co-chair of the South African Antibiotic Stewardship Programme, and co-author of the South African Antimicrobial Strategic Framework. He is the current President of the Federation of Infectious Diseases Societies of Southern Africa, and President-Elect of the International Society for Infectious Diseases. Marc's focus is on national and international policy around access, appropriate use and innovation to combat antimicrobial resistance.
